Empty frames
This is an installation of 20 cheap clip photo frames I disassembled and re-arranged on a table in the old painting studio at uni. The frames are "empty", instead the focus is on the frames themselves, looking at the beauty of the materials against each other such as ploystyrene and plastic or the gleaming silver clpis against the glass.
I chose the painting studio because I feel this piece makes a loud statment in a room used for the traditional priming of canvases. The pieces changing the focus to the simplicity of ready-made materials instead of the laboured beauty in painting.
It also emphasises the room's rectangular characteristics such as the table, the shelves and cupboards and the shape of the room. I'm interested in how the frames then begin to relate to the space and make you as the viewer more aware of the space in contrast to the usual aim of frames which make focus you inside the frame and make you unaware of the space around you.
